Character Info
◎ Character's Name: Sakaki Yuya (family, first)
◎ Character's Canon: Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc V
◎ Character's Age: 14
◎ Canon Point: episode 37
◎ Background/History: http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Yuya_Sakaki
◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? Neither
◎ Personality:
With his opening appearance, Yuya is easily labeled a goofball. He plays around during duels, doesn't seem to take things seriously at first, and he's quick to perpetuate his clown-like image by making silly faces when he messes up. Everyone, even his friends, thinks that he treats everything as a joke. While he genuinely likes to make his audience smile, he purposely acts incompetent because of his father's disappearance when he was younger. Three years ago, Yusho Sakaki seemingly ran away from an important final championship duel, leaving his audience to call him a coward. Yuya was left in tears but continued to defend his father, stating he would never run away from a duel. However, over the years, Yuya ended up acting like a clown so that people would laugh at him for acting stupid rather than being laughed at because of his father's disappearance. When the chance to duel his father's opponent appears later, he takes on the champion despite seeming anxious to begin with. The duel is both to clear Yusho's name and to get closer to becoming a professional duelist like his father.
Yuya has always been a bit of a crybaby easy to emotionally shake up. When things get tough, he tends to lose confidence now and then. He also has a habit of putting on his goggles when he becomes upset or angry, especially when he's trying to hide his tears. When he was very young, his dad would cheer him up stating, "When you feel like crying, just laugh." His father's advice is something he takes to heart. Yuya relies on those words to get through tough duels or when he's about it give up hope. Both Yuya's pendulum pendant and his deck are mementos of his father, which he feels strongly towards. He looks to his pendant for mental support and guidance, and his sees his deck as precious friends he can rely on, especially his Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon. Obviously, Yuya holds his father in high regard and aims to be a professional Entertainment duelist like him. However, the young duelist has a lot to work on in terms of naivety and insecurity. With the development of Pendulum Summoning, Yuya automatically assumes that the summoning method belongs to him only. He becomes disillusioned and takes it personally when Reiji shows that he is also able to perform Pendulum Summoning during their duel. It's another kick in the teeth when Reiji announces that he sees future possibilities in the summoning method, whereas Yuya does not. It takes a duel with the You Show Duel School's principal, an old friend of Yuya's father, to set Yuya straight that he can't give up and that he should remember his love for entertaining the audience rather than being focused on purely winning with Pendulum summoning. Yuya returns to his idealized dream with gusto and sets a goal of entering a championship as one step closer to becoming like his dad.
As an entertainer, Yuya is all about having fun and bringing smiles to his audience. It's something he learned from his dad and is a very strong belief that he's held onto throughout his dueling experience. At the same time, he has also become a pacifist and also believes that dueling should not be used to harm others. When he watches Shun & Sora's duel, he is appalled by the holographic setting turning into a battlefield with buildings falling and everything on fire. He's very vocal about it too, such as when he convinces Yuto not to use dueling as an instrument of hatred. Yuto also believes in Yuya's ideals, seeing it as a power to bring smiles to others and a way to protect the future.
Yuya is generally a good, fun-loving kid who cares deeply about his friends. Although, oddly enough, he becomes somewhat timid when faced with bullying, such as when Sawatari steals his Pendulum cards. But when his friends are held hostage for the duel, Yuya does his best to rescue them and yells at Sawatari to leave them alone. While he may have failed to stand up for himself, he's quick to protect his friends. No matter the situation, he will always try to help them, such as when he does his best to rescue Yuzu and the kids from falling off one of the Action Duel's holographic towers. The same extends to protecting the You Show Duel school. His father's school is a precious place for him and his friends, so when the school is threatened to be taken over the LDS company, Yuya immediately steps up to the challenge of dueling top LDS students to save the school. When Yuya is determined to get something done, he's very straightforward and no nonsense.
Yuya also relies on his friends for support, and in turn he is very loyal and considerate towards them. When Yuzu loses to Masumi and is thrown to the ground, Yuya rushes into the arena to help her up, even holding her when she gets dizzy. In order to qualify for the championship, Yuya must battle Gongenzaka, one of his best friends. Gongenzaka had always supported him when he was younger and kept bullies at bay, so Yuya was initially uneasy about dueling him. He thought that, by winning, he would screw up Gongenzaka's chance of getting into the championship, which would be like an act of betrayal for everything that his friend had done for him. It is only until later in the duel that Yuya begins to get serious because Gongenzaka wanted a serious match between them without any feelings of pity. Before Gongenzaka's championship match, his opponent uses Yuya's loyalty to his friends to set a trap. Yuya is fooled to think that someone has stolen Gongenzaka's sash, so he chases after the thief. (And by the end of dueling with the punks who lured him, he gets their applause after making it an entertaining duel.) Even when Sora shows his true colors as someone who hunts down XYZ users, Yuya still cares about his safety. Later, he stands up against Yuto to protect Sora by joining their duel. However, Yuya isn't blinded by his loyalty and begins to demand answers about Sora's objectives.
As far as small quirks, Yuya's horrible at science and math topics, as shown by a trivia-based duel field when he kept losing life points for answering things wrong. He's also good with animals, which helps since his mom keeps adopting stray cats and dogs all the time. He's most at ease in Action Duels, where he can be found zip-lining, climbing, and doing all sorts of acrobatic activities with style and energy. Yuya's ultimate goal is to be a pro entertainment duelist, but he can't immediately improvise on the spot. Like with his demonstration duel with Yuzu, it takes him a moment to realize she's acting for dramatic effect. Also, when he's suddenly called on stage to recite the dueling oath, he's briefly overwhelmed with a small case of stage fright.
◎ Powers/Abilities: Above average strength and endurance for a 14 year old since he trains to perform acrobatics for Entertainment Dueling.
◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
-His duel disk (creates holograms & can be used as a communication device)
-duel monsters deck
-pendulum pendant
-goggles
If he can't bring his whole deck, I'd prefer if he had these specific cards: Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon, Timegazer Magician, Stargazer Magician, Dark Rebellion Xyz Dragon.
CEREALIA-Specific
◎ Element: Fire
◎ Sense: Sight - Yuya prides himself in being able to find things easily, like Action Cards. Also, he tends to hide his emotions by obscuring his face with his goggles, so he's self-conscious as to how he may appear.
◎ Seven Character Traits:
( fun-loving, lively , considerate ) | ( insecure, gullible, capricious ) + loyal

It's taken awhile for Yuya to adjust to his new life in Cerealia. No pets to wake him up or the wafting smell of mom's pancakes coming from the kitchen. Every morning is lonely. His new routine involves waking up to his alarm, grabbing breakfast, and take 10 minutes to look over his deck. A time to reflect and think on his friends and family that are supposedly gone. Every day, he vows to fix things. Somehow, some way that he doesn't quite know yet. Before heading off to school, he always has to dry his eyes and put on a smile.
Attending the academy is a welcome routine for distraction. He either sleeps through or reviews strategies for dueling during classes. No surprise that his grades are hurting, but he doesn't care too much. He's the class clown on days he's feeling particularly down. Otherwise, he's amiable and has even joined an acting club. His classmates are nice. Plus, he gets to show off his cards and talk about Duel Monsters. It's too surreal. His dad's infamy doesn't hang over him, and everyone treats him as a normal yet goofy kid. No bullying, just an average lifestyle...
He is not sure what to make of all this change, but he keeps to his old life as best as he can.
Training for Action Duels in particular is something he hasn't given up. The world he's found himself in lacks the cards, the machinery, and just about everything else involved in the game, but he keeps up with the physical training. Yuya hits the gym now and then, but he relies on ViViD most of the time. Exercise and earning credits at the same time? Sounds like a good deal to him. Maybe he'll save up enough to get a large circus ball and a hanging bar like he had in his old room. Granted that his first experience with ViViD was a nightmare, Yuya has become very comfortable with the immersion technology. It's almost exactly like the holograms created for Action Duels but without physical injuries. It's also another great way to distract himself from the worries in the back of his mind. Dodging, hurdling, climbing-- never fighting, even if the simulation calls for it. By the end, he goes back to his lonely apartment, flops onto his bed, and grips his pendant in his fist. The pendulum, his deck, and his memories are the only things to keep him company at night.
He wonders what his dad would do in his situation.

Some power stuff
Aside from Pendulum monsters, Yuya runs an Entermate archetype deck, with the exception of Timegazer Magician, Stargazer Magician, Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon (& all fusions), and Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon. The Entermates are pretty darn cute since most of them are loosely based on circus animals or are generally cartoonish. (They have top-hats and bow ties too. How can that not be adorable?) Many of them are practical for fast transport around the field. For example, Yuya uses his Whip Viper as a literal whip to be able to swing from place to place or scale large heights. Discover Hippo, Silver Claw, and Odd-Eyes are typically used for riding around. Amenboat has been used to cross water, Trampolynx has been used as a literal trampoline, and Sword Fish has been used as a literal sword (although Yuya only used it to stab into the side of a building so that he wouldn't fall off).
Yuya also has his YGO protagonist moments where he somehow warps reality to pull out of a tough situation. The creation of Pendulum monsters and Odd Eyes' fusions are good examples of Yuya breaking the game/suddenly having insight to summon monsters that he had not previously owned the card. Since there's no explanation to how Yuya randomly godmodes these things aside from YGO PROTAGONIST POWERS, I did not include it previously because it's not the sort of power that can be used in RP/outside of canon situations.
Canon update to ep 51
While recovering from his second possession, Yuzu meanwhile encounters Serena (her Fusion counterpart) and decides to switch outfits with her so that the Academia invaders go after her, giving Serena a chance to go talk to Shun about what happened to the XYZ dimension. Yuzu is later cornered by the invaders, who then disperse when Yuri (Yuya's Fusion counterpart) arrives and tries to take Yuzu with him back to Academia. However, Yugo (Yuya's Synchro counterpart) arrives while Yuzu is being chased which teleports Yuri away thanks to Yuzu's mysterious bracelet. Yugo mistakes Yuzu for Rin (Yuzu's Synchro counterpart) and embraces her...which causes them to BOTH teleport into the Synchro dimension when Yuya comes by looking for Yuzu. He continues to look for her, only to encounter Serena battling Academia with other duelists and Sora (who Yuya now knows is with Academia) dueling against one of the ninja duelists. He witnesses Michio and Teppei lose to the Academia duelists and be turned into cards AND Sora turning the ninja duelist into a card, which causes the possession process to start up again. While almost fully possessed, he remembers Yuto's words and calms down before challenging Sora to a duel in order to turn him away from Academia. While Sora seems set on seeing duels as a way of conquering, Yuya's effort to remind him that dueling can be for fun begins to sink in just as the battle royale ends. Yuya's friends and Serena find him afterwards, and he learns that Serena is in fact NOT Yuzu and that his best friend was acting as a decoy against Academia. He almost confronts Sora about Academia, but Sora teleports back to the Fusion dimension before Yuya can get an answer.
Reiji arrives on scene next with Sawatari revealing Reiji's master plan of the tournament's true nature: to find duelists strong enough to create the Lancers team that will fight against Academia. Devastated by the realization that Yuzu may have been taken away, Yuya becomes enraged by Reiji's plans that have sacrificed duelists in the process while he was fully well-aware that the Fusion dimension would invade. Yuya then assumes the worst, that Yuzu has been turned into a card by Academia. Furious, he attempts to punch Reiji, is blocked, and vows to make Reiji grovel for Yuzu and everyone else that was sacrificed by dueling him. Reiji then continuously provoke Yuya during the duel to trigger his possessed state so that Yuya will summon Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon since it would let him acquire the data behind Yuya's XYZ Pendulum summoning. Through the duel, Yuya yells at Reiji that everyone isn't his puppets, that the people who were turned into cards are their people with their own hearts. We also learn that Yuzu was the main driving force behind Yuya as his reliable and encouraging friend, and her trying to become stronger by learning Fusion helped him to go beyond Pendulum summoning. When Reiji tells him that Yuzu wasn't turned into a card,Yuya is able to think about joining Reiji's Lancers team in order to save her. Yuya then takes on a large amount of damage and is thrown to the ground, but when Gongenzaka and Mieru try to step in, he shouts at them to not interfere-- that the duel is his, Yuzu's, and Yuto's. Despite all the effort Yuya dedicates to beating Reiji, he ends up losing the duel...with Reiji telling him that he won't be able to save Yuzu as things are now. Frustrated from losing Yuzu & the duel, Yuya also tells himself that he's not good enough now, that he needs to get stronger to definitely make sure he can save Yuzu.
